Blooms June through August. The plant was once thought to be a cure for spider bites,  hence the common name Spiderwort. The plant is quite common in the Tallgrass prairie. Spiderworts produce flowers over a long period of time. They prefer a moist soil with average fertility. Soil too damp, or too rich, causes plants to flop over. The plant grows in sun or partial shade but prefers partial shade. After flowering they may be cut back to promote new foliage and possible re-flowering in early autumn. Plants finished flowering may create a poor
appearance.
